What's New? There are many different ways in which parents can support Friendship Children's Center.
Classroom Field Trips Details regarding upcoming field trips can be found on your child's monthly lesson plan or by talking with your child's teacher. Volunteer sign-up sheets are posted in each classroom for upcoming trips and special events.
Special Events
- Back to School Night & Annual Parent Meeting
(usually the second Wednesday in September) 6:00 p.m. Meet your child's teacher, spend some time with the other parents in your child's classroom, and attend our Annual Parent Meeting as we begin the new school year.
- Fall Fix-Up
Parents volunteer a block of time on one Saturday in October to spruce up their child's classroom. Volunteers will wipe down chairs, cots, and furniture, clean toys, and wash windows. If a parent is unable to attend they may donate cleaning supplies or drinks/snacks.
- Halloween Party
(usually the Friday closest to Halloween Eve) 5:30 p.m. Dressed in costumes, we'll play games, eat treats with our families, and participate in our very own parade around the block.
- Holiday Party
(usually the first Friday in December) 5:00 p.m. Join us for a bit of holiday cheer as the children sing their favorite seasonal tunes and we welcome this wonderful time of year with cookies, light appetizers, and refreshments.
- Week of the Young Child
(usually the first week of April) A week-long celebration honoring the role we all play – at home, at school, and in the community – in building better futures for our children. Typical activities include a community service project, super student day, staff appreciation day, volunteer thank you, and parent teacher conferences.
- Spring Clean-Up
(usually the last weekend in April) Parents volunteer a block of time on one Saturday in April to spruce up their child's classroom. Volunteers will wipe down chairs, cots, and furniture, clean toys, and wash windows. If a parent is unable to attend they may donate cleaning supplies or drinks/snacks.
- Dance Recital & Preschool Graduation
(end of July, early August) 5:00 p.m. At the conclusion of our annual 10-week summer dance session, the children entertain their parents with a sampling of what they've learned from our professional dance instructor over the summer. This also marks the time of year when we say good-bye to our graduating class as they head off to local elementary schools.

Volunteer Programs The Board of Directors asks all parents to pledge a certain level of involvement in school activities. There are many venues in which you can get involved, including participation in our Annual Spring Clean Up Day and Fall Fix Up. Monetary and supply donations are always welcome from those who cannot volunteer their time.
You might also opt to serve as a room parent for one of our classrooms. Room parents are asked to perform one or more of the following tasks:
- Checking books out of the library
- Coordinating classroom parties
- Recruiting volunteers for projects, special events
- Helping teachers organize field trip chaperones
- Copying handouts for parents
- Preparing materials for art projects
- Soliciting donations of activity supplies from parents
- Helping with the school Book Fair
- Assisting with coordination of community service projects
- Identifying and recommend special visits or activities for the children
- Coordinating and publicize school picture day
- Serving as a member of the Parent Teacher Partnership Committee
Friendship Children's Center also seeks one parent per classroom to serve as a room parent coordinator. This task involves helping with transitions of room parents to new classrooms, ensuring adequate coverage in the absence or departure of a room parent, and acting as a liaison between room parents and teachers.
If you are interested in serving as a room parent or room parent coordinator, send an email to roomparent@friendshipchildren.org.
